I'am I being fair?

Purchased a part from a fellow member, payed a reasonable price considering the cost of a new part, recieved the item and it was rubbish.
Sent an email for his comments and didn't recieve a reply ,I know he went to trouble to send it oversea's but I'am not real happy.
Dealt with some great helpful people on this site but this ones set me back a bit.
Anyway can I demand a refund through Paypal or am I just dreaming

What part was it, and how is it 'rubbish'?

Its best to have pictures so you know what your getting.

And what did you mean by rubbish? Most cars getting parted out are getting parted out either because they wrecked, or they weren't in that good of shape. Pics say a lot, so does location.

Depends on the part, how much you paid, and how you think it's rubbish. There's to much info missing for us to tell you if asking for your money back is fair.

No, let them walk all over you.

My neighbor is an old New Zealander boxer. He'd ask for his money back...staight away. Ya might not get it but it couldn't hurt to try. Heck maybe he is a reasonable guy, offer to reimburse his shipping costs.

If he is a "buyer beware guy"..."Out him and no one on this forum will ever trust him again. You have some leverage here. Use it.

Thanks Rick good idea,Chicks it was a sunroof seal that was sun dried , cracked and water had entered and corroded the metal binding inside.
Perhaps I expected too much for 50 bucks but would you wouldn't fit it to your car?
I don't want the freight cost back ($20) I can put that behind me,its more the principal and that "ripped off feeling".

Sorry to hear about the bad deal. I hope you get your money back.

On another note, I guess you're the only 944 owner in the ROW who I don't have to be jealous of on grounds of having a sunroof delete 944.

Yeah, cant say I'd buy anything rubber from a 20+ year old car. What did you expect? Sun dried, cracked, with water damage is expected of a 20+ year old sunroof seal. (You had to replace yours right?) Stuff like that you're better off buying new.

The seller shouldn't have offered to sell it, and you shouldn't have looked for a used sunroof seal. Sucks you lost $40, but I wouldn't bash the guy on here, unless he said it looked and functioned like brand new. Link to the ad?

what sunroof seal do you need? The one on the car, or the one on the sunroof itself? Jackson gave me a sunroof that has a ok'ish looking seal, and I have another sunroof with a seal thats eh' ok the best I know. It may or may not be better then what you have, they are 25 years old. Again, I would just buy new. If you want it, I could give it to you for cost of shipping. Let me know.

I have checked my Paypal transaction and I infact payed $50 for the part ,sorry for the confusion (see edited reply).
And no I didn't want to bash the seller on here ,he stated the seal didn't leak but I can't see due to it's condition it would be watertight.
When the inner binding corrodes @ the rear where the join is the rubber coating swells and stops that edge sitting down on the body seal.
Chicks that is a very kind offer, the seal is the sunroof one, could you please PM me with a photo.

Haha...That sunroof...

My friend was going to make some video for some film class and he needed a redneck and a redneck car. We were going to paint that sunroof like a Confederate Naval Jack and put it on my white N/A and name it the "General Jackson" Haha, get it?

I had a similar problem once, it was the wrong part, not the condition. It wasn't worth the cost to return ship it back, and the seller had the correct part, was willing to provide it for free, so I paypal'd him $25 extra to cover his trouble and another shipping charge. He really went out of his way to keep his customer happy, and his rep clean and I was happy to send some extra $ his way for his trouble.

And I had the part I needed!

Yea had the same situation on ebay, the trader was great he send a refund though Paypal for the parts,I lost on the shipping but thats the way it is.
Ordered 2 944 K+N filters and got 2 Honda ones .
Have re-emailed the seller of this part hopefully he will come to the party-so I wait be before lodging a claim with Paypal.

A new seal may be expensive but think about how huch cheaper it is than a cab top.

It may not be a problem with the seal, either the original, or the replacement.

It might be the sunroof drains are clogged.

The seals are designed to leak a little, so there are drains around the rim of the sunroof opening to channel any water that leaks thru to the underside of the car.

If these drains get clogged with debris, the sunroof will leak, even with brand new seals.

porschetub-I looked at my seals today, and they don't look all that great. They are pretty dry. I wouldn't want you to spend money on shipping just to get the same thing. Sorry, but I tried. The new ones are expensive, but you'll probably never have to do it again. Buy once, cry once. Good luck!
