Blowing hot air
Here goes another thread, lately it seems like all I've had. 87 NA blowing hot air in the cabin, to the point you have to have the windows open while driving.
The car originally had this problem when I bought it a year ago and changing out the little white clips under the dash proved to fix it. Recently I had a busted radiator hose, so I changed all those out and figured while I was doing the maintenance, change out the cracked battery cables. And "while I was in there" I changed out a bunch of vac lines, new heater hoses, both sensors and put a new heater control valve in. Not that any of those needed to be changed, but you know. Now, the hot air in the cabin deal. Re-checked all the vac lines - connected well. Looked under the dash, white clips still in place, though no amount of manipulation will allow me to manually move those levers. What could have changed in a week's time from controlled air to always hot? The AC control unit is new. Could I have messed something up or is this just another coincidence in timing? Why is it every time I replace something old that's working with something new it goes to ****? And whatever happened to "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? I can just imagine when I start the air lines on the Turbo. Probably have to scrap it for parts when I'm done! What's supposed to happen when I change the knob from hot to cold and how does the HCV function? |

Check the vacuum line from the firewall to the heater control valve. If there is no vacuum at the heater control valve it defaults to heat on position.

I checked it - still in tact and snug. It has to be one of the other vac lines I did replace.

Mine does the same thing, I have even gotten to the point of taping up the fresh cabin intake vent in the engine compartment.

Are you sure the small metal clip that holds the heater control valve cable to the side of the valve is still attached ? Mine popped off and flew somewhere unknown so I have the problem too. Assuming I could not get that part I tried tie wrapping it closed (only need cool air here in Houston) but it comes off eventually however it does help. Of course with it tied closed you will not be able to move it either. Also for some reason I had no vacuum to the valve that routes cold air to the dash vents vs floor. I vacuum pumped the valve closed and locked it to route air to the dash vents.

When doubt go to Clark's garage.com. The below link shows how the heating unit operates.
