Radio Reception

Anyone else have poor reception from their Window Antennae. I have an 87 Turbo and 944S and both of them get poor reception. Anyone found a way to improve reception. I have aftermarket radios in both. Thanks.

on the antenna lead to the radio, there is a signal wire to the power signal amplifier...is it connected to power so it boosts the signal..sometimes neglected to be hooked back up properly..but usually the windshield antenna sucks..I am currently installing a 968 antenna, the roof mount FUBA style..will let you know if I get better reception

I had the same poor reception problem with my antenna mounted in the windshield. I ended up mounting a $35 12 volt antenna that I mounted next to my 3rd brake light inside the hatch and running the power wire and antenna wire forward. It is small enough to not be noticed and is held in place by double sided sticky tape. Best thing that I did for my car and have had trouble free reception for a few years now. The little antenna rectangle box is approx 4" long and 1" wide approx. I had to get a fairly short antenna line extension to plug the antenna cable into my antenna jack in the radio head unit as the cable supplied with the 12 volt antenna wasn't long enough for the location that I picked. You could pick a different location to mount your antenna and not have this problem though.

Roof mount solution?

Fitted FUBA roof mount as per 968,not easy but reception better without even having the amplifier wire connected.
Previously had factory fender retractable type.
If you don't go for this solution you could look @ replacing your amplifier or checking connection as stated.

Yeah, I thought my reception was kind of lacking as well. I will have to check to see if the wires are connected right.

I had another idea for an antenna. My hatch defrost doesn't work and I wanted to see if it would be possible to disconnect the power from it and run the wire for the antenna back to the hatch glass. I would think that all the wires on the glass would work good for an antenna, as long as they are all connected and not cracked.

porschetub - How does the wire go from the antenna on the outside of the glass to inside the car?

No mines a roof mount same as 968's so it fits between the rear of the hatch and the edge of the sunroof outside, the power and antena wire run inside the roof down the rear trim/speaker panel along under the sill trim to the headunit.
I have seen a complete amplified NOS unit on ebay for sale for around $100,I like them as they suit the car and really work but are hell to fit

Hi,

Most aftermarket radios have poor radio reception. Pioneer seems to be the best though, then Alpine. I'm not sure why but whenever I installed decks the customer would always experience a slight to significant drop in radio reception.
