MSD 6A (6200) install help
I got an MSD 6200 unit as well as a blaster 3 coil. I need some help figuring out where two of the wires go. I've got the 4 simpler ones connected, two to battery and two to the coil.
Red: Connects to a switched 12 volt source. Such as the ignition key or switch. White: This wire is used to connect to the points, electronic ignition amplifier output or to the Yellow wire of an MSD Timing Accessory. When this wire is used, the Magnetic Pickup connector is not used. These are the instructions I've been looking at: http://www.jegs.com/InstallationInstructions/100/121/121-6200.pdf I would really appreciate it if someone could post a picture of these wires connected in a 944 NA engine bay. Also, the "White" wire mentioned above looks more yellowish than white on my 6200. And the "Orange" wire that's supposed to go the the +ve coil is no different than the "Red" wire referred to above. The Red and White wires mentioned above are in the same sleeve on my unit. Once again, thank you. |
Anyone?

The black wire on the coil (switched 12 vdc) connects to the red wire. The green wire on the coil (DME coil trigger which pluses to ground) would connect to the white wire.

Thank you, sir. I realized after reading through the instructions again how stupid I was.

MSD 6needs 8920 Magnetic Tach Adapter
Ibtisam;
That a great upgrade but your will need the 8920 to get Tach/ignition to work properly... keep us posted... Later. |
I installed the MSD 6A (6200) and Blaster 2 coil that I purchased separately. I also installed Bosch WR7DC gapped to 0.038. So far the car seems to be running nicely and the tach is working too (knock on wood). I've got brand new beru wires and bosch distributor installed. The wires have plastic insulator around them and seem to be working properly. I mounted the 6A behind the firewall next to the battery with two wire ties and some velcro adhesive (good up to 300 degrees). I also have plastic insulation around the 6A wires.
The reason why Blaster 3 would not work is because I could not find a cable that would plug into both Blaster 3 and the distributor. I tried messing with Accel wire and boots but they wouldn't fit on the Bosch distributor. If I had been able to find the right boot for the wire I would have been able to use Blaster 3. Hope this would help. Btw, the car is an 84 NA stock. |
I did not install the 8920 though. The tach and shift lights work properly.

Yes, I tried to put the accel wire and boot on the blaster 3. that worked but for some reason i wasn't comfortable with the boot for the distributor cap. It didn't envelop the red connector all the way back. :)
