924s engine alignment

Here is a problem. Done this a few times and never had a problem. Did the head gasket and as far as i know the pistons and can weren't turned. Cleaned and put it back together but get no compression? Spark and fuel seem ok. No resistance when turning it over. What's going on. Alignment of belt seemed ok although it loosened up after turning it over the first time. Don't know why. It was out one tooth on the cam after that. Wonder if it was not properly in a groove on the crank when tightened?

Before the oil leak, it had 95-96% leak down with good compression

Have i overlooked something silly?.

As long as the white line is on the mark at the back of the engine/fly wheel and the cam is on the mark, does a half turn of the cam make a difference?

Did you put the plugs back in? (just had to say it)

Do you have even loss of compression across all cylinders? As long as both marks line up at the same time at some point within 2 rotations, it should be fine, as long as it wasn't rotated significantly with the timing misaligned. I don't think one tooth off will bend valves. Do you hear air leaking back into the intake or exhaust during compression strokes?
