Testing an ignition coil?
|
does anybody out there know if I have to disconnect the positive and negative wires running to the coil before testing for resistance... I tested it with wires still attached and got a .9 reading instead of a .4 to .6 reading...
thanks... its snowy and cold out there and it's a little tough to get at those nuts right now. |
Electrical is my worst subject, but I don't think you have to disconnect the wires to check for resistance. The meter is checking the resistance between the two lead wires that you are touching to the coil, so anything connected going the other way shouldn't change anything.
That is wrong with the car that you are checking the coil. No spark I am guessing. What happened? What car do you have? Dang, I think I have another coil, but I don't know where it's at, probably my parents garage, 80 miles away, sorry. |
