Welded up wheels
In my on-going search for a set of 16" Fuchs wheels for my '83 944, I have found some items being sold by a fellow out of S. Florida. He has a local shop cut off the front of one wheel and the back of another to create one wheel. The machinist creates a step that locks into the other half, then fillet welds the two parts together, creating an 8" Fuchs.
Any comments? Good idea? Bad idea?

airhead,
years ago I would widen steel rims for dirt trackers , either by 2 halves or cutting & putting a band in the middle. Nobody came back wanting to whip my tail because a wheel came apart. I think there are folks that cut Fuchs & make bolt together rims. drew1 |

I think that's how Lindsey Racing makes their custom wheels.

I wonder how they keep the balance?

They may have a balancing machine. I didn't balance the ones I did, but kept them true by a dial indicator.
