manual steer feel the road?

I was wondering if all manual steering 944 feel every pebble on the road? I noticed it alot last nite as I took a drive and it was on country roads very peaceful and I could feel every Little imperfection on the road in the steering. I know for a fact my steering is tight and all parts are great if not new, did them myself last year with only maybe 1,000 miles since. I'm not concerned to drive but was wondering if this is how this car drives.

There is more "feedback" through a manual rack but that is mainly felt as better steering response rather than feeling the road surface.

What grease do you have in the rack? If you are running a light weight grease it might cause you to feel the road surface more. Remove the boots and pack the rack with the heaviest grease you can find and that should improve things.

I thought the point of manual steering was, well, what you are experiencing?

If you're talking about the steering being reactive as opposed to passive, it could be an issue with too much positive caster. Too much positive caster makes the steering react to bumps and stuff in the road, where properly adusted caster, the steering feels "quiet."

I have a 951 with power steering and an 83 NA with manual and there's not an awful lot of difference with how they feel driving. For me, the only real difference is when you're trying to park at Safeway, then the manual car is a real PITA...

The steering is very responsive and tight, the car takes corners like I think it should "very well" what I am talking about is feeling little imperfections in the road itself. The struts are new and the inner and outer tie rods are new also. I will go recheck my tire pressures, I just had new valve stems put in and I wonder if maybe there is too much psi. I will keep you all up.

old924 my paint turned out pretty good 8 out of 10 to me but I will need to sand and respray clear but I will wait till fall. We have a lot of pollen and bugs here in NC and I had a very primitive paint booth. I feel I could have done a perfect job in a perfect booth but it is what it is. Shiney with some small specks. I found that my tire pressures were 42 right and 35 left I set them to 32 and now it is fine, still scratching my head over the little shimmy, maybe a new "good" pair of tires would do.

Check the wheel bearings and adjust as needed.
