Weird A/C Gremlin?

So, the A/C in my '86 was converted to R-134a by a PO. It works very well actually, but the fan works on settings 2-4 only with the A/C on. At setting one, there is no movement, just like on setting 0 or "Off". This isn't normal right? With the heater turned on, setting "1" does work however.:eek:

should work at all 4 settings with either the heater or a/c on

So what could it be? Everything about the HVAC works except cooling at setting "1".

setting 1 on the a/c is very low, tape a small piece of string to the vent, turn on the a/c, and set it to 1 on the fan switch...should see light movement on the string (just a bit more than it moves with the fan off)

Thanks, I will try that. I have sat there with my hand just feeling for anything and I swear there was no movement, but the string test will be helpful, for sure.

it has to be some pretty light string, like kite string, or heavy thread. Good Luck

It's probably the switch, but might be the resistor. Take them apart to clean them, or buy new ones.

a 1 hour soak in white vinegar works well for dirty resistors

Resistor more than likely.
