Polished Intake is different, help

'84 944 n/a unmodified

PO gave me a polished Intake Manifold. I have my current one off to do the fuel line upgrade and some other items.

Unbeknownst to both the PO and I is the polished Intake does NOT have a large vacuum nipple below where the Throttle Body mount. Also there is a hole on the side that is NOT there on mine.

Searched PAL and cant find these numbers stamped on manifolds:
Current manifold 944.110.151.6 R marked 83
Polished manifold 944.110.151.6 R marked 82

Can I reroute vac lines to use the side hole on the new manifold instead?

Pictures:

Mine on the left, new polished on right, note mine has vac nipple to venturi:

Mine with bottom vac hookup below Throttle Body mount:

New without bottom vac hookup below Throttle Body mount:

Mine with undrilled side hole (left recess):

Hmm, must be an early vs late thing.
You could always just polish the original one, it's easy....
No it's not. I tried, and gave up. Too time consuming if you don't have a spare that can be done at leisure. Ended up sandblasting and scotchbriting, turned out pretty good.

The vacuum should be the same throughout the manifold, so you could use the side hole.
Not sure there is enough room unless you can get and elbow nipple with the correct diameter.

You will have to re-route the hoses to fit the side nipple. You will probably have to
fabricate some new hoses.

Numbers are "casting" numbers. Sadly, they don't correspond to Porsche part numbers.

I believe it's an a/c vs. non a/c thing, but don't quote me on that. Just get creative with the vacuum lines if you really want the polished one.

Got it sorted. Got a $2 heater hose elbow and epoxied it in there, then ran heater hose to the venturi. Works! Cranked up and runs like a champ.

Here it is:

And the side vac fitting I made:

Just a word to the wise, check that epoxy joint every week or so for the next month if you are going to be using the car. Many epoxy's especially the ones you find at places like home depot and such are not made to handle much above room temp. The engine bay can be a hot place and may lead to the break down of the epoxy or it may not. I try to avoid using epoxy and glue around my engine in fear of it melting or catching fire. The polished manifold looks great though!

Yeah you really should have used jb weld in there, I don't trust that blue or clear stuff much at all.

Used JB, thats some blue silicone I put in there temporarily to test the engine to see if it even ran. Once I confirmed all is well, took it out, cleaned, and reinstalled with epoxy.

Right now Brian944turbo in SC is looking for a steel elbow out of an early intake, and I'll install that to make it more permanent.

I must say tho, in all my 50 years I've never heard of JB Weld, epoxy, or silicone gasket sealant catching fire...
