Workshop Repair Manual, worth to buy?

I found a Workshop Repair Manual at my-porsche.com priced at about US$220. Is it woth to buy?? Is it useful for repairing my Porsche or checking my car??

AFJuvat 05-24-2002 09:39 PM

Yes, they are extremely useful - assuming you are already mechanically inclined. There are a few web-sites around that will let you download the manual for free (it is 466 MB). Sorry, but I don't have an address off the top of my head though

Short Answer: If you plan on doing most of your own maintenance, yes, it is definately worth the $220, the books will not teach you to be a mechanic though.

GUYS MANY PEOPLE PUT ALL 3 SHOP MANUALS ON RENNLIST FOR DOWNLOADS. nOT HARD TO FIND AT ALL.

AFJuvat 05-25-2002 03:02 PM

I should have an FTP site up tomorrow for general consumption

I have the folowing volumes

Vol 1: Engine
Vol 1a: S and S2 16 valve engine
Vol 2: Transmission
Vol 3: Chassis
Vol 4: Electrical
Vol 5: Electrical
Vol 6: Turbo

Once I get the site up, it will be free for download - even comes with acrobat reader. 466 MB zipped file, 516 MB fully expanded.

Cheers

FYI: I am currently working on making the pdf files searchable, broken up into smaller files and have links to all the files and main topics.

I finally downloaded what was available on rennlist last week and found it very time consuming to page through those large files. I am not complaining at all, because they are better than not having them at all. :-)

If anybody is interested, i'll post updates somewhere as I get them done.

Nope, the 968 manual is like an additional 7 volumes.

SANDOVAL 05-26-2002 09:23 PM

Do you have them?

todwic 05-27-2002 12:20 AM

You need to download an FTP utility - FTPX comes to mind as a good free one.

Sorry the server is rather crude, I'll work on getting something a bit more user friendly up here in a day or so.

Mike -

I have downloaded like 3 different types of FTP server software and not one of them will allow me to access your site.

Where do I enter in the I.P address? When I hit the "search for files on the internet" button, it says to enter FTP server name; the user; and the password......but the IP address doesn't work in any of these areas.

Don't mind me, I'm learning this as I go (well, not really learning anything right now :) ).

Ahhhhhhhh (pulling hair out) - I still can't get the files.

I downloaded FTPX. Where is it exactly that I go to search for these files in FTPX?
