Any broken wires on the drivers side headlight? Maybe the wires for the headlight are only making contact when the light is closed/half open and once it's flipped up it loses it's connection. Kind of like a pair of headphones where one side stops working until you hold the wire that goes to that side in just the right place and it starts working again. Have you tried replacing the bulb?

Check the wiring where it bends at the head light actuating bar joints. The wiring tends to fray at those points from bending all the time.

Cheers,
Larry

I just had my wire for my driver side head light brake where the wires are strapped to the body.I'm running a jumper wire to power it till better weather. just follow the wires off the back of the lamp and see if you can find any brakes,i find helps to have the light flipped up.
