Power Steering Reservoir Filter?

I have seen some passing comments about changing the filter in the power steering reservoir. I have never seen this as a maintenance procedure nor have I ever seen a filter for sale.

Does anybody know if you can change the power steering fluid filter? And if you can, how do you access this filter and where do we get a new one?

Thanks!

The filter is in the reservoir and is not really accessable. It is physically built into the bottom of the reservoir, the only way to get at it is though the fittings that the hoses connect to. There is no replacement filter available.

I've flushed mine out with brake cleaner (both through the reservoir and through the hose fittings) and gotten a lot of dirt/grime out of it. In my experience, it is tricky at best due to its location. Others have reported success flushing the tank with a solvent. (I like brake cleaner because it cuts through oil and leaves no residue - and if you get it into the fuel system, it is burned off along with the gasoline)

If you are exceptionally concerned about it, you can just replace the reservoir, which is what the factory calls for whenever you do any power steering work. They run about $40 here at pelican.

AF is correct.

For the price of the container, you may as well replace it 3 or 4 times in a life time and it will probably make your pump last a little longer as well (but thats wishfull thinking)
