CV race differences
So last night while cleaning/inspecting/repacking my CV joints I noticed that they axles and parts of the races were different(manufacturers marks etc). one axle is a Porsche and the other is VW. they all had the same # of splines and fit. My question on the race on the right. The one on the right was not as fluid in its articulation and odd man out in overall appearance from the other 4.
as for my knowledge on the names of the parts (race, cage, star gear), i'm a little not sure of. for the sake of this post i'm just going to refer the the parts as outer, middle, and inner. The differences are the lip on the of the middle part- Pink line The taper of the inner part - Green line Any ideas why this one is different? Is it supposed to be that way? Is it from another year? Did the PO order the wrong thing and just cram it in there?

upon further investigation, I believe the joint come from a vw bus/Thing or maybe a 924 with the race installed incorrectly. I should have written down the #'s off the joint before re-installing
this is what is currently installed or as I can best find from visual inspection alone. CV Joint - 113501331D So following Clarks instructions the job was easy, messy, but easy. biggest help was cleaning out the bolts before I tried to remove them. It would have been nice if the PO installed the inner race correctly, which I now have to go and disassemble again, or bought parts from Pelican instead of as a used component. Yes the part fits but its almost as if the cage is too small for the bearings which in turn don't articulate well into the outer race. it has worked thus far since 2001(hunting down maintenance records was helpful), so a few more weeks should be ok until I can order new axles. demensions info on type 1,2, and 4 (33 count spline)and 930 CV(28 count spline) http://www.blindchickenracing.com/How_to/CVJoints_Axles/cv_joints_101.htm crap! guess i will just have to add some more parts to the wish list and go get greasy again.also this may explain the extra wear and slight roar from the right rear now. i'm sure most of you guys may already know this info, but recently I have seen an increase of newbies(myself included) and this may help them gain a little knowledge.
