Help installing lower steering shaft!
 

how do i remove my lower steering shaft on my 85.5 944 power steering ..is there a write up with instructions ?

With the wheels straight, you should lock the steering wheel in place aswell as the steering rack. This is not necessary as long as you are careful.

Then remove the u-joint pinch bolt on the top and bottom. Odds are the shaft will not move still, so use a small chisel and tap it in between the pinch on the u-joint, this will spread it enough so the joint slides out of the splines.

It's pretty easy, just do your best to keep the steering wheel straight and the rack centered.

I also had to remove the rack to get the shaft out of the rack. There was not enough room to manoeuvre it out otherwise. This is or rhd, lhd might be different.
