wtb roll bar
I have an 85.5 944 and was thinking about installing a 1/2 roll bar, (so I can still use rear seats) does any one have a line on some thing like this?

Redline Rennsport makes a nice one and the guy is based out of NY.
SafeguardPage You can still use the rear seats for storage (assuming that is what you meant.) |

that is NOT a roll bar. it will provide NO rollover protection. it is lacking landing plates. in the event of a rollover, it would rip the mounting bolts loose, and punch right through the floor. see any racing organization's requirements on roll bar construction.
it is a pretty good harness bar though. |

Auto-power is your answer just don't plan on putting anyone in the back seat.

that's exactly why i designed mine the way i did. i didn't want to lose the rear seating. i lost the ability to drop the seat down, but the seats are still usable. also, no drilling or cutting or welding required, yet it still met or exceeded all SCCA and PCA specs. that stuff was a big deal to the 968 guys.

I actually took out the back seat and only have the back rest in place to keep stuff from sliding forward. The bigger issue is safety of back seat passengers. You really don't want people riding back there with a roll bar. In an accident bad things happen.

that really depends largely on the bar, and the person in the seat. as an example, the unit i designed does not interfere with rear passengers, nor present itself as a contact spot for them, assuming they are properly belted in, and fit in the seats comfortably to begin with. that was a key design parameter.
but, nothing is perfect, so you have to be brighter than the furniture when considering these things. |

I'm 6' 2" and have been in the back seat of a 944, car also had a driver and two other passengers.
![]() The length of my feet is the first issue, I need my shoes off. It is a "little" cramped though. Granted - that was nine years ago, age makes spaces feel a lot smaller...

I have a bolt in autopower rollbar that is designed for street and track. The diagonal bar, as well as the harness reatining bars, bolt in, so that they can be removed, leaving only the hoop, and supports bolted in the car. Contact me at gerry@mills-scaffold.com if you may be interested. I am near Toronto, Canada, but will be heading down to Pennsylvania, and Maryland, some time in April, and could ship from there.
