Four wheel therapy

I was having a stressful time at work today, anxiety about some things, and generally was feeling really glum and "wrapped around the axle" as they say, and it was getting worse and spiraling, as it does for me at times. I said, "screw it, I don't need this", and took the rest of the day off, and drove home the long way, on some of my favorite winding roads with a little "spirited driving". I barely ever went on boost most of the time, but the car delivers even at 5 tenths, if normal driving is a one. I actually suffer from fairly severe PTSD, which can be very problematic at times in my life, and I can't overemphasize the therapeutic value of taking a little time to drive and make it just "go away".

I just can't say enough how much that joy and thrill just cleanses me and my 944 takes me completely and instantly from a bad place to a good one (literally and figuratively, in this case). Adrenaline truly is the solvent for stress.

I just wanted to share that short experience with people who would understand and appreciate it. Sounds dumb, maybe to some, but it is very real for me! Don't forget why we have these wonderful cars, it's about more than polishing and wrenching. Take the time to find a place and have a real enthusiast's drive.

Jeff

No...not dumb at all, I think quite a few can relate to how you feel..

As my tag line says Wrench Therapy Inc. Very true indeed. I use my therapy to clear out the noise. No phone, no radio, or other distractions. Just be with the car as you pace it out down the road. Engine sounds and feeling the road do more for me than any Prozac. Its not dumb, ditch. It is special. Especially when you build your own German therapy machine. Hammer down man and leave the problems in the rearview, if only for a little while.

Sometimes driving makes it worse. If I go for a drive to clear my head and I get stuck behind an old geezer/soccer mom going 15mph below the limit then I can't enjoy my drive anymore.

There was a commercial from the motor cycling world that went "and as I crested the hill and shifted into 3rd gear I couldn't remember a word she said"....I can't remember how many times while riding (and now driving) I have said those words out loud

Jeff,

That kind of happened to me yesterday also; I was so done by 9:30 am that I told my boss ( great guy as he believes in life outside work) that I was leaving, did a few errands then spent the afternoon driving. I felt so much better when I got home, especially since she didn't break anything while in route! I actually took my wife on a date last night with her and had a great time driving around town.

Then you better get out of my way before I throw your ass in a retirement home.

Getting stuck behind geezers on roads that permit passing can be fun. Throwing it down a gear and hearing that engine rev up while moving into the oncoming lane and leaving their ass in the past is intoxicating.

I knew some of you probably felt the same. My intent was to encourage driving for the sake of it, it really is worth taking the time!

Gawernator, you are fired.
