IIRC the VW rabbit/Golf uses the same one?

When you get them off and all cleaned up check for any wear before you go and repack 'em. You'll need a 8mm 12 pt "cheesehead" tool to get the bolts off, some good degreaser and some CV joint grease as well. Its also been said that its you should tighten the bolts back up with a torque wrench so factor all of that into your cost as well.

I've heard something about switching the joints to extend their lives. Would this be switching the outers with the inners?

And how many ft lbs? 32?

I think I switched mine left for right, inner for outer should do the same thing.

Did you switch the left outer for the right outer and left inner for right inner?
Or some other combination.

I can't remember, just flip them so that they spin the other way say from CW to CCW.
