Head light linkage adjustment question
When my headlights pop up, the go past vertical and then slightly dip back down prior to stopping. This causes the lights to point down slightly. So obviously I need to adjust the linkage so that they stop at the highest point. Read Clarks Garage, BODY-05, Headlight Motor Circuit - Operation and Repair, and it says, “Start the car. Turn on the headlights. Unscrew the linkage from the motor shaft without turning it. Reposition the headlights manually while holding the linkage that you just removed from the motor. Reconnect the linkage to the motor shaft. Try turning the headlights on / off once more to verify the correct position. Repeat the procedure, if necessary.”
My question is this. Once I remove the nut holding the linkage to the motor I cannot get the linkage to slide off. Has anyone here performed this? is it easier to remove the 2 bolts holding the headlight motor in place and slide it to the left off the linkage then adjust and replace? thanks all…. |

Gently pry the arm off the shaft, prying against the metal bracket. You should be able to move the linkage arm off the shaft just enough.
Adjust, put nut back on. I think that is what I did. Haven't worked on the car in a while. Take care, |

Headlight adjustment
You may have already solved this, so ignore if you have ! I just did this having repaired my motor so it doesn't randomly cycle after turning the lights off. My lights also went up, then down slightly after reaching the top. Here is how I adjusted it and they work perfect now.
Just a FYI, you do not have to start the car, simply turn key into run position so headlights cycle up when switched on. Per a previous post, loosen the 13mm nut on the linkage and move the linkage off of the motor shaft toward the driver's side. If it has never been taken off, you may need to pry it carefully off the motor shaft. With the lights on and up all the way, move the linkage off the motor shaft and re-adjust the headlight via the linkage all the way up and reattach the linkage to the motor shaft. Tighten the 13 mm nut back up. Turn lights on/off and it should be all set to go. |
