Lowering the rear

Hi all. Been lurking for a long time after finally getting my 944.
I am just now discovering more about my car. I bought it without knowing ANY info on PO, history, maintenance, etc. Pretty much sight unseen. The car IS everything and more than I expected.
I have noticed that the rear has been lowered about 2" or more. Personally, I like the factory settings. Will probably do the adjustment this fall. I wanted y'alls opinion on why would someone lower the rear? (autox, better handling?) Also, it has the Autothority chip, K&N filter, throttle response cam and a couple more items that I don't know what they are. (I will post pictures for help later.) To think, I was just hoping to get a plain ole 944.

Thanks in advance for your input.

since it seems like you have some performance parts on the car the PO might have had some heavier springs put in that lowered the front and to match it he reindexed the torsion bars.

just a thought

your story is the same as me,
I bought my car from a salvage yard, it spend all it's life in florida,
now it's in canada.
My car is lowered on the rear, has a performance chip, header, and used to have a roll bar.

I'm 99.9% sure mine used to be raced.

The front and rear should be the same height on level ground. Measure to the bottom of the body just behind the front wheel well and in front of the rear wheel well. If the rear is lower, it either needs to be adjusted or the torsion bars nn to be reindexed or replaced.

Thanks for the input. It doesn't seem to ride bad so I think i'll reindex it after the weather changes to cooler temps.
This board is great. Thanks all.

You may not need to reindex if you only want to raise it up by less then an inch. You said your car is 2 inches lower at the back this will be quite bad and the car will look very odd and the drive caracteristics will bad too. Some people lower the back to shift some of the car weight to the back. This improves traction and has some benefits. But at 2 inches I don't think you get any benefits.

Well, I lowered my car by putting lowering/stiffing springs up front and I adjusted the rear down, with the eccentric bolt. The front was lowered about 1.5 inches and the back came out perfect at an 1.5 inches,I can put a 2 foot level on the door jam on level ground and the bubble is perfect.
