When I replaced my sunroof seal a couple years ago, I had to have someone push the panel into the roof in order to get the arms to re-engage after I put the panel back on the car. I left it closed for a few weeks and it seems to work properly now, at least it doesn't leak. Unless the panel is really sitting very high, it's probably OK. Mine still doesn't sit quite as flush as it did with the old worn out seal.
However, if you really want to make sure everything's correct, see below. There's a small slip clutch near the sunroof drive motor that can loosen with age. The intention was that the clutch would prevent the motor from stripping the drive gears if there was overrun. Obviously this didn't always work. Still, this might be worth checking: Sunroof Operation, Troubleshooting, and Repair

Make certain seal is installed correctly as stated in above post. If it is, it is probably just the natural "newness" of the seal. When I swapped them out on my 951(inner and outer), it took some time for the new seals to "settle" a bit and get worn in to where the sunroof panel once again sat flush.

Might want to apply some silicone lube to the lip of the seal, too. That'll allow it to slide in a bit easier. Then let it set in the sun for a week to "form" the new seal.

If the clutch is too loose, it might not be able to close the roof properly, but that seems like a pretty remote possibility; usually the slip clutch gets tight, not loose.

Was very fussy fitting it and it was sitting nicely on the fibreglass panel, didn't think it was easy to fit having said that.
Having no more leaks is very satisfying ![]() ![]() .Should I pull the drive apart and check the drive gears are ok?,thanks.
