'86 944 N/A 83K GREAT CAR... For Sale $7999

I'm selling my '86 944. It's in great mechanical shape and is still a head turner!!! Interior is like new (including dash... no cracks). No rips in seats. I've spent many hours pampering this baby (ask the wife:-)
Need money to help pay-off new '89 951 purchase (and calm down the wife). Here's a run down of it:

- Completely stock (never mod'd)
- 5-speed
- Guards Red/Blk Leather
- Phone Dials (excellant shape)
- Tires 85% left (Bridgestones)
- New A/C Condensor (blows ice cold)
- Cruise
- Rear wiper
- Factory sunroof
- drivers electric seat
- Sony detachable CD player
- Factory locking alarm
- K&N filter
- Brakes done last fall
- Recent belt(s) job (good for another 30K)
- Original Porsche Air Compressor
- Original spare and jack
- Fairly recent clutch and water pump
- Porsche Bra
- I have all maintence records from myself and previous owner.
- Car was purchased and has been in Tennesse prior to my purchasing it in 5/00.
- I have a clean CarFax report on it and will e-mail it if your interested.
- Always Mobil 1

This car has been stored winters with a cover. Never abused, has been driven to work during summers (~3 1/2 months in Michigan). I recently drove this to Colorado and back to pick up '89 951 early this month and it ran like a top through out the entire trip. I even had one guy try to buy it from me while I was out there, just couldn't come up with the money in the 2 days I was there (shucks).

This is not a disappointer!! It is extremelly solid mechanically and you will be able to drive this for many miles without any major repairs.

I will e-mail pictures of it upon request.

you can market it like this:

"why get a 951 when you can have an n/a for the same price!"

seriously, you may have to wait a long, long time for the buyer who will spend that much on that car, it's nice appearance notwithstanding. generally an '86 n/a will sell for around $3k-$5k.

congrats on your turbo s purchase, good choice.

you west/east coast guys really don't know what it is like to try and find a good P-car out here in the 'interior' of the country. If that car is in great shape he should be able to get $5-$7K for it.

Now he may not be able to do it out the in CA or Jersy, but he should be able to get it elsewhere. We'uns hear about all these good deals you guys get out in CA but 1) you know what you're looking for 2)you're always looking and 3) there are maybe 10 times as many cars out there (east/and especially west coast) as elswhere so there is 10 time the chance of scaming some old lady out of her dead husbands 944! You guys are lucky to be in such a target rich environment!

Congratulations! We just don't see that. I looked for 4 solid months to find my 951 and had to give $12K for it -- high? maybe, but it was extra clean , low miles, and my lips were entirely worn out from kissing frogs!! I saw so much crap and by the time I would have put those cars right, I would have been into them for as much money and a lot more time. For me, it was worth it to get a car that had really been pampered.

Also you see a lot of low cost 944's but frankly I have yet to personally see one on the street that wasn't pretty much ragged out -- they should be cheap! So gobogie, I'd hold out for a decent price -- especially if it's a real good example.

$7999? That's how much I paid for my clean '89 944S2. No wait, I paid a dollar more.

this is what i'm talking about. same color, same general miles, same general price, same general area of country. who knows what this 951 is like mechanically, but you get my drift. it really does pay to shop around, and be patient.

I wonder what % of potential P-cars buyers do their homework though. I didn't have a clue in the beginning and went for price/mileage/receipts. I was scared of a turbo and thought it would be more problems. Looking back I should have held out for one, although at the time they were way more expensive. I still got a good deal though and never regretted it! What other cars could you buy in this price range that will deliver this much fun?

I think 944Jeff has made thepoint once more. Whatever the price, where else can you get equipment of this quality at the price? Over on the 356 thread they're trying to decide whether a rusty 356C that doesn't run is worth $28K or $38K. I guess it all depends on your priorities.

I got cash money that it is priced (or at least will sell) for what it's worth. I saw turbos for $3500 bucks -- I think that's irrelevent. I've seen many a turbo I wouldn't let sit in the same place I put my dented '90 chevy truck and some 944's that were very very nice and will command a premium. Value is value, and it depends on what kind of car you want. Cheese-bags are a dime a dozen and the price reflects that. Well-cared-for low-milage cars are definately hard to find.

Thanks to Kenny for his support on my venture! I didn't know there would be this much discussion over a car that nobody has bought yet (lol)! Kenny is right, you don't find many 944's around my area of the country (lower MI/Northern IN) and when you do they are either beat to hell or they are in great shape like mine. Neither of the two will you find cheap.

I just bought an '89 951 in Colorado (64K in primo shape) and paid $14K for it. You just don't find that around here. I see ads in Pano for '88 951 S's and '89 Turbo with 90K miles (or more) and in average shape for $17 to $18 around where I live all of the time. I looked at an '88 951S about a half an hour from where I live the week prior to purchasing my '89, the car was barely average shape with 119K and he was asking 14K for it??? It's just because the supply is shorter and the demand is not necessarily higher but you have to fight for 'em. Even at that high price they are in Pano for maybe 2 months before someone snatches them up.

You get what you pay for I guess. Anyway, I think the car is worth it and as always I'm more than willing to negotiate. I can always go down on the price but you can never ask for more.

I'll definately keep you fellas posted on what happens with it. I hope Kenny wins his bet though

Cory
