Oil light's on?

Here is what happened. I stopped to get gas and when I started the car to leave the ! light is on and the low oil light is on. Not the low oil pressure, but low oil. So I checked the oil and the oil is still fine. Why is the light on but the oil level is fine? Is the sensor bad? Have other people had this problem before?

I get that in my 968 sometimes if I park on an incline for a while; I think the sensor is left out of the oil and gets "dry". It normally goes off if I park level for a bit.

The oil light is off now. I didn't even do anything. The car sat over night and when I drove it today the light is off. Strange.

When mine comes on, it's always at the gas station after filling up. Handy.
It's just a little low when that happens, so I top off with maybe up to 1/2 quart. So maybe you are a little low?

The ! light comes on and there is a oil light in the left gauge at the bottom. At least there is on my 87, I am not sure about the 85.5.

Gtroth, My car wasn't low on oil, that's what's weird.

Hmm, can't remember if my car has that light. I will double check.

Mine is not so fancy; I just pop the hood open every two weeks and peek around for oil level, milk shakes in the power steering, coolant, and oil reservoirs (cross my fingers each time the hood goes up).

Try start/stop after car sits a while. Same thing?

Try topping off small amount oil. Light off?

Same thing with my 87 944 NA if long time since oil change. Top off makes light go out.

Also if I let car sit a long time and restart light can remain off... But I can't recall exactly this test result.

When mine comes on the level is still in between the two marks on the dipstick, maybe ~3mm above the low mark. So not that low. If your level much higher and you see the fault, then yeah, I'd agree that's weird.

Probaly not adjustable like on the Carreras so replace it or ignore/disconnect it I guess. Maybe look for harness connections to clean...
