924- Power steering??
78 - 924. While examining the motor I realized there was a spot for something to be mounted inline with the accessory belt. Is this a spot where the power steering was an option?

Power steering was not an option on the 924.
Depending on the year a 924 will have an alternator, water pump, AC compressor and smog pump driven by V-belts. |

Probably A/C or smog pump, as was already stated.
