what type of radio do i have?

Ok, just bought my first porsche 3 months ago. 91 S2 with 65k one owner miles. Owned by a woman school teacher no less. Azure blue with gray leather, roof, premium sound, cruise, etc. just replaced rubber center clutch and hooked battery back up, so naturally I need to input radio code. I have the code and every bit of records that you can think of, even the manual for the blaupunkt EQ. I just don't know what radio I have, on the face it reads Porsche CD-2. I checked the blau site to no avail. It is definetly (sp?) the factory radio. Any assist would be greatly appreciated. What i'm trying to figure out is how to input the code.

It ussed to be that you had to slide a card in the radio to give it the code. Check around for a small bar coded card - maybe only .5 inces wide or so.

Also, look for any funny slots on the radio.

This particular radio does not have the "key card". I have disconnected the battery before and re-entered the code, BUt have forgotten how to do it.

I used to have a VW Corrado, the radio (a Blau Heidelberg) code was inputed through the tuning keys, if I can remember correctly. Are there instructions available? If not, or if not clear try searching online for a PDF version of those or other Blaus manuals.

When you turn the radio on the display should read "OFF" this means the radio code is locked. The radio has to be sent to the main repair shop in CA for recoding. You unit is probably an Alpine. Call your local Porsche dealer for confirmation.

Sorry to disagree with Britwrench, but I don't THINK that sending it in is necessary. You can try 1 of 2 things: leave the ignition on with the radio off for 1 hour (suppose to reset it...) or disconnect the battery for 15 mins (reset it...). If IT is locked I would try both of these methods before considering sending it in...

I only said to send it to Alpine if it was locked. You can also try leaving the radio switched on for 24hours (remove it from the car and wire directly to a battery) The 15 minutes or one hour will only work if all of the available recoding attempts have not been used.

Thanks for everyones help, I now know that it is a blaupunkt radio, although I still don't know exactly which model. The radio did display "off" so I turned the ignition on and waited and then put in the code. I sell BMWs and the process is similar for their radios. So I now have music again although listening to the car itself was fine with me. Thanks again!

Glad you have music now. However, CD-2 units are made by Alpine not Blaupunkt. According to the programming information sent by Porsche, if the display reads "off" the unit has to be switched on for 24 hours to clear the system then the code can be re-entered. "Off" will be displayed after three consecutive incorrect attempts to enter the code.

Well, I assumed that since the car has premium sound with the blaupunkt bea-80 eq that the head unit was blaupunkt also. As far as unlocking the radio I just left the ignition on for a while and waited for "code" to reappear.

Porsche have been installing various head units over the years.
The Blaupunkt amps have been pretty much always used in most models.

If you have a CD-2 it will have CD-2 written on the right side of the face plate.
