Door and hatch lock barrel refurb

Was thinking of refurbing the door and hatch lock barrels of my motor.

Was going to disassemble and drop all the parts into a sonic cleaner.

My question is, on reassembly is there any lubricant I should use to keep them running smooth/seizing and trouble free over the winter?

Cheers

Lightly oil the lock tumbler but don't pull it to pieces that can be scary, they don't usually bind up but the locking linkages flock out and make the key hard to turn.

+1 on that advice! ^^^

Don't take the locks apart unless you really have to. Spray them really well with WD40 or similar to clean out any gunky stuff. Just put a key in enough to open the lock and then spray down the side of the key. Then run the key in and out a few times to clean the tumblers. Spray again, or leave the whole assembly to soak overnight in WD.

Just a few drops of light general purpose engineering oil should do it when you re-assemble.

Use Tri-Flo, it has superior penetrating/lubricating properties. Taking the tumbler apart is really not difficult just be sure to keep all tumbler lock pins in the same order. It's also a good time to inspect the pin springs. Lots of small pieces!
