Alarm system.

I have what is titled as a 89 944 but I think it is a 88. While chasing a dead battery problem I came across another problem.

After pulling all the fuzes one by one to track the problem I then went to hook the battery cable back up and touched it a few times trying to get on I heard this chearp from the horn behind the battery.

I know this car has a alarm on it as when I lock it the door lock things blink.

I know nothing about how or if it works but this is the first time I ever heard anything from the alarm it indeed thats what that corn goes to>

A
Can anyone explain to me hoe it works? I don't have the glove box book.

I also have a 88 911 and took the alarm out think
kine it was draining the battery and now the doors won't stay locked. So I don't want to repeat the screw up.

Your alarm system is working fine....the horn sounded because you have the hood open to the engine compartment.

The alarm system activated by key, near the driver's door, but you probably already know this fact. There is within the engine compartment a button/switch near the fuse box on the engine firewall frame; triggers the alarm since the hood is open.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I under stand but I do not have a key on the rear quarter. I think when I lock it it sets the alarm.

The alarm system activated by key, near the driver's door, but you probably already know this fact. But, if you don't then I will try and explain that while the alarm is activated your car should not start since the alarm system triggers the horn and disables the power to the starter.

There is within the engine compartment a button/switch near the fuse box on the engine firewall frame (driver's side) ; triggers the alarm since the hood is open.

When you close the hood the horn will stop and the car will be protected until you turn the system off using the key, or the switch within the car on the console panel.

Hope this helps.

Just so you know...if you need to work on the system, the wiring and alarm switch is located within the body panel driver's side rear seat area. If you are trying to disable the system completely, you could just remove the switch there and leave the wiring hanging.

I had to do this once on a 1987 944 n/a Manual transmission when I was troubleshooting a "No-Start" condition and had to keep the engine compartment hood open. I was going deaf from the horn. LOL

I've had this car for 17 years and have played with the battery cables So many times that I don't want to talk about that. But this has never happened before.

I did have a problem in the 911 where if the key slot was not strait on In the pass door lock that when you set the alarm it would go off until you set it strait.
