craigslist disappointing finds
what is wrong with people and their need to add tasteless custom work to our beloved 944's.
this one, the hispanic owner had some kind of crazy custom interior job that looks like it demanded a high price, but turned out aweful as its just plastic trim with air brushed skulls and wood grain. porsche 944 and here is another custom 944, and the guy is asking 13,000$! it looks terrible with some kind of custom paint scheme, white with yellow accenting stripes, but what is so bad about this car is the owner put on a tacky hood scoop, but not only that he removed the rear quarter window completely to give the car a more coupe look (i guess) and its not even complete, the front is missing lights nad he is still demanding a steep 13 k why? i do not know A Porsche 944 so yeah i just wanted to show people what is out there and how terrible it is, i am glad the people on here choose to leave their cars unmolested in favor or factory or quality refinements rather then custom one off stuff that is very questionable

Almost ashamed to say they are both South Florida cars. Yes you see a lot of bad custom work in Miami, it's the land of Honda Civics with 6" tailpipes and all that goes with that culture.

im ashamed they are porsches, why dont those people in that custom car culture just stick to their del sols and integras and leave the germans out of it haha you dont see mutilated 911's (that often) but these are just tasteless and a crime against humanity

Craiglist has really disappointed me as both a seller and a buyer,Porsche or not. You can sell things there, you get a lot of exposure, but the sheer weight of the human filth you have to wade through to get your asking.price is just not worth it. Every tire- kicker, dreamer, and would-be "craiglist shark" thinks they are entitled to what you are selling for a fraction of your price. Then they actutually get belligerent and hurt when you refuse to give them the deal of.the Century.
As much as I hate Ebay, atleast they have limits in place to force pepole to be civil and rational. Jeff

jeff you sound drunk and i would just like to add my craigslist experience has been wonderful, i got my car for a tire kicker price and the guy was happy to sell so, my experience left everyone happy i am sorrry you had dificulties but it is a free service, so really anyone can say they have a 944 and are visiting you to buy a hood, but when he shows up to rob you, craigslist is at fault. so its really just bad people in the world and i say ****um

The appearance of drunkenness was the direct result of attempting to spell correctly and walk and utilize a cellphone. I assure you I am not drunk at 6:30pm on a Monday evening.
My craigslist experience has not been exclusively "one tirekicker and the deal turned like a songbird for everyone" like yours. The world is indeed full of bad people, and it is a fact, not a subjective matter of opinion that the bottom feeders would prefer an un-monitored, consequence-less marketplace for fraud and dumping the worst to the worst. That is not debatable, it is a statement of fact. Your mileage may vary. Mine wont, I rarely go there. I limit my exposure to questionable individuals. Jeff

I agree with both of you. I've purchased items, including my 84 on CL with almost no hassle. The problem lies when it comes time to sell something. The fine folks in Nigeria are really interested in every obscure item I have for sale. I especially love the idea of making so much more than the requested selling price, just submit the difference! I've learned that: A local sale, cash only, a well lit public transaction area, and accompanying friends always makes the deal go down better. I too have done well in this arena; one must just be careful.

Oh man...What now?

The first 944 with all the wood needs a chrome chain steering wheel and air lifts on the suspension. Fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror. If you're going that far, you might as well go all the way....The second white with yellow...I like the yellow accented wing. I wonder what coating was used, and how good it looks close up.

I see no problem with people doing modifications to their cars, as long as they're done well. I understand "purists" but I also understand people who like modding their cars. I enjoy doing little tweaks here and there myself. Did it to my mustang (gave it an Eleanor-style look), will MAYBE do some things to the porsche (definitely adding the 968 door handles and mirrors), and will certainly be modding my 350Z...but unfortunately won't be doing ANYTHING to my cars till after this furlough nonsense has passed

I like the yellow and white car. Especially how they put the hood scoop on backwards.
Maybe he was stoned during a long furlough.

Lolol! I love each and every one of these monstrosities so very very much.
In truth, I have very mixed feelings. On the one hand, the more 944s are made abominations, the more my very stock 944 will be worth to a collector someday when they're a lot harder to find. On the other, the philanthropist in me wants to keep as many of these cars on the road and in original condition as humanly possible..I've also had mixed experiences with CL. I've bought both of my 944s there, and they were both great deals. The second was owned by an engineer with a mint 911 Targa and a spotless Triumph Spitfire, so I trusted him pretty implicitly. Selling is a different matter. I had good luck when I smashed up my '83 and found Pleiman through CL, but the majority of prospective buyers... Ugh.

yes, anyone can post to craigslist, and anyone can buy from there so if you want a more positive experience buying/selling 944 stuff here is where to do it(or rennlist forums), but if you need lots of stuff, craigslist is good at having all kinds of anything so its kind of inevitable to deal with the website once in your life, and as for the people, as long as you watch out most people are on there to just buy/sell not screw you over, so as long as you pick out the posting that has a price that suits you and the item then human contact can be kept to a minimum
