tow, dolly or flat bed
A friend's S2 puked it's water pump in my driveway, it needs to move to a garage. What are opinion's, pro’s and con’s of tow vs dolly vs flatbed? Me think's tow could possibly tweak the front suspension and maybe scrape the tail pipe.

My car is pretty low and has been flat bedded twice in the last few months with no issues. Let them know its a Porsche before they come, and make sure they use the tow points, and use the nylon wheel straps.

I've had my 951 towed twice (both times for a failed OPRV that blew out the oil filter on cold start). AAA refused to send anything other than a flatbed. I think that was the right decision.

Just had mine flat-bedded. It helps to have a 2' 2x6 in front of each wheel going from 1' on the ground to 1' up the flatbed. Any shorter and the front hits the ramp, or the car falls off the 2x6 when it gets past it, and hits the splitter on the ramp.

I wouldn't ever have any car towed or dollied unless it was an emergency. I would always do a flatbed.
Towing and dollying for a long trip puts a lot of unnecessary wear on the car. Take care, |

I have a tow dolly and when I purchased my 968 dolly it home 250 miles no problems at all. It doesn't really wear out anything since the car is off. At most the suspension, tires and wheel bearings will see some mileage.

Frankly my dear....

I have been flat-bedded a couple of times too. The first time the driver wanted to just sling a strap around the anti-roll (sway) bar at the front and winch it on. I pointed out that that idea was not good due to the lack of strength in the bar mounts, etc. He took some convincing (but he was a muppet!), anyway we got it on OK in the end. The second time they had to winch it on backwards due to access problems. Unfortunately this means the front valance does smash into the ground as the car is loaded due to the angle - always try to load front first!

I just had mine flatbed towed. Even with the HUGE and very extended and low Linsdey front end, he got it on using the winch on the factory front tow eye, and some boards, and creative use of the bed hydraulics.
I think flatbed is the best way. Jeff

I'm in NW Ohio, and tow dollied my 944 home from Niagra N.Y. with no issues after I bought it. I can't imagine what that towing bill would have been if I had it delivered. As it was, it cost me a tank of diesel in my truck and two meals on the road.
