Tachometer Stopped Working

THe tachometer in my '87 944 stopped working. I tried a different cluster but it still isn't working. Does anyone know where the guage pics up the RPMs from so I may check the connection there? Thanks for your help!

From one Nile Green 944 to another. I just checked the wiring diagram and the line that comes from the DME/ECU goes through a 4 pin plug that also provides the wires for the boost gauge and master warning light. I don't know physically where that plug is but that's the routing for the tach. Of course every time something screwey comes up with something electrical, someone comes up with, "check the grounds". I don't know if that's a valid idea or not in your case but that's the stuff I have on it for now. The shotgun approach would be to unplug the DME and see if a little contact cleaning will fix it. Good luck sorting this out.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.
