924 "Convertible"

rare 1978 Porsche 924 convertiable

He lost me when he says "this is a rare car there was 10 cars made by Porsche they where the prototype for the 944 and they where all supposed to be destroyed but some how this one was not" and then goes on to say "but when I talked to the Porsche factory they say the car was sent out as a 924 hard top"

but they, maybe it can be gotten cheap if someone is interested in a 924 cab...

Cant really see it being a prototype for the 944 in any way. However, there were a few car body specialists doing soft-top conversions to the 924 (a few made it over to the UK). Unfortunately, most of them were a bit nasty to drive due to a lack of chassis and shell stiffness in the rear. Shame the owner didn't put better pictures up!

If Porsche say it went out as a hard top then it probably was converted elsewhere. All 944 cabs started life as hard top shells that were then 'converted' in-house at another factory, but records of that conversion would have been kept and the car recorded as a cab...German car manufacturers are generally meticulous about record keeping!

Interesting car though...

yeah he starts by trying to say it's a prototype, which isn't true, then says it left as a hard top so he really should have read his own ad before he posted. And it's also all fiberglass he says.

looks like a miata (mx-5).

Hubcaps!

Gah!

____________

That car probably has not been reinforced at all after the conversion - oh wait, factory modification. It might collapse if you open both doors at once.....

However, this car does have some interesting features. Like the 944S2 cab, it has the small vent windows. Also doesn't have a right mirror.

IIRC Bauer (perhaps ASC) made one or a few 931 Targas (like the 911 Targa) for Porsche as an experiment. Never went anywhere, obviously.

Take care,

Love it. No, really. I think the 924 body style makes a really pretty cabriolet. But the blurb is mostly BS. Lost me at 'hello'.
