One more isssue water pump
Everyone, the engine was totally back together last Friday, fired her up and sounds great, no leaks and everything tested out fine, except for one item, started heating up. We burped the radiator and still heated up, then we jacked up the front and pulled a vacumn on the cooling system and refilled. Still no luck, top radiator hose is hot, bottom hose is cold. Shop mechanics think there is still a major air block, I think it is the thermostat. My car is an 1987 924S with the new style water pump. When I pulled the thermostat it was held in by the snap ring, but was missing the back spacer, the front spacer, my question is.....would not having these spacer cause the thermostat to hang up???

If you replaced your waterpump and used your old thermostat, potentially that could cause problems. There are two styles of updated pumps - one has a 4.5mm ledge and the other a 7mm ledge. Here's an old thread that explains it:
