Question Ticking noise from glove box

When I turn my ignition on, I'm starting to hear a strange ticking noise, and oddly enough, it seems to come from the general glove box area. In the last month or so, the ticking has become more and more frequent but I've got no clue what it could be(?) Nothing else is wrong with the electrics....or the whole car for that matter.

Has anyone ever had this problem? If so, any ideas?

What year do you have? If its a late year I had a ticking from that area and I found a little piece of muck trapped in the little fan that is attached to the climate temp sampler unit.

Yep, its a later model ('87). Hmm. Is there a way I can access this little fan area and check for debris?

Thanks, Blackfoot. Definitely a strong possibility. Now I'm wondering how I can access that small sensor back there(?) There was a little vent that allows you to direct the air coming in the glove box itself, and for whatever reason, this came loose. Haven't fitted it back on since. Maybe this is related.

You need to remove the fuse for the interior lighting, then remove the glovebox and slide it out. It's real easy. Then there are two 10 MM bolts holding it on to its bracket. Disconnect it and clean it out. If the fan is broken, drop me a email I have an extra.

SOB...I have the same intermittent ticking. Very intermittent. It drives me crazy. So its the sampler fan huh! Will have to check it out. Almost sounds like a relay or switch click.

Its a thought, you could also have a bad vacuum switch on the side of the air box, but you can see those as well when the glove box is out.

In my case Scott R was right, it was one of the vaccum solenoids. Does it mean that the solenoid is bad. If it is, can it be fixed and if not where can I get a new or a working used one. ?

Thanks to all the knowledgeable people on the list, I have been helped many a time.
