What kind of symptoms might you see when the headlight switch goes bad?

My symptoms are: headlights work, but only go down sometimes, side markers no go, interior no go. I'm thinking the relay at the headlight motor, but I can get them to go up and down, but only down if I remove the relay and harness wire then plug them back in. Not sure if the relay has anything to do with the marker lights or not. The car has had a wire tapped to the interior and license plate light to make then work years ago.

I thumped a side marker light the other day, it came on, then all havoc broke loose. No blown fuses.

I hope it's the ground at the side lamp in the rear. Damn, forgot to check that. Thanks for the rant.

Add what you may.

Clean, shiny, grounds would be my first check. Have the grounds at the 4 major points been cleaned and greased?
