My first twin cam, couple questions..

I just picked up my first twin cam 944.. it's a 1987 S with 96K on it.

It came with the factory service book full of dealer stamps and service records..
Timing belt services at 42K and 78K.. Nice rust free body and underside. Car runs and drives great.. it's a tight car.

Needs a couple things figured out that the 60 year old previous owner just didn't want to deal with.. He was moving and just wanted to sell. Picked it up for $2200

He had removed the center console to replace the arm rest pad and the plastic trim around the heater and thats where he left it.

Prior to putting everything back together I was checking out the function of everything and I've discovered the car has no heat.

Usually when something goes wrong with the heat system it gets stuck on hot..

The defrost button works and the fan goes on high.. the fan speed knob works..
The AC compressor does not turn on when I push the AC button..
and no matter where I put the sliders I have 'room temperature' air, not hot.
(and here in NH today, that's about 15 degrees)

I found posts about the lines running to the heater control, and little plastic clips that break off.. but they seemed to all be posts about the heat being stuck on..

Any troubleshooting help for no heat at all?

The other thing I noticed is that all dash lights are out.. not one light comes on in the dash when the lights are on and I move the dimmer wheel around..

Other than that, the car seems to be good. Windows work, sunroof works, power seat stuff works.. it's pretty clean..
Seller had it up on dollys under a cover in his garage and based on the service records he took good care of it. It's not 'pristine, but it's a nice car.. especially for the money.

Here's a few pics as purchased.. I brought it home yesterday and put it in the garage to get it back in to shape.

Thanks for any help you can offer..

A White 944S with no rust is my halo car.. great find AND price!

I too am tracking down an intermittant No Heat condition..
Thought maybe the interior temp sensors had failed since Full Defrost mode yields 116F heat.

My alternator is due for replacement.
And whenever Amps remain above 13, the heater works fine, so...

Maybe consider the relevance of that finding on your lovely "new car".. SmileWavy

I had a no heat issue on one of mine. It ended up being the vacuum actuators on the passenger side of the heater core. I removed the glove box to get to them. You will be able to track them down by following the vacuum line in from the top of the blower fan. There are two actuators with vacuum lines on them connected together. I didn't know which one was bad, so I just replaced them both.

On a 944s check that the fuse for the ac is not blown (5 or 7.5amp if I recall) If it is blown it will affect whether the hvac unit gets power. If it blows when you turn on the a/c compressor the Power steering switch is bad. Best fix for that is to disconnect the PS switch wires, and tape them apart and leave disconnected. These wires should NEVER be connected together as will fry the wiring harness.

good luck

Crazy cheap - good score. Looks like a sweetheart.

Sweet, you did real well on that one.

Looks nice.
I have a couple of S's myself. One is sitting with an electrical issue.

If you need a new HVAC heater/blower and or the actuator, I have one sitting around.
