You have to drop cross member. I get to do mine again this winter because I did not get it done right the first time. Mine leaks a little in the back. Really irritates me because it is a job to do. I have a low tolerance for screw-ups, especially my own.

Yup.. Its a really tricky job... especially with the 22 bolts etc..

I ended up get my local dealer to do it.. As a couple of friends had problems and I decided that it was not worth the risk.. plus if they stuffed it, they could fix it up...

Worth every penny....

I may give mine one more try. The gasket is about $50 here. Plus all PCA members got a 100 dollar coupon (from PCA) for Porsche parts from the dealer. In late December and January the weather here can be rough so I don't go to track events. Probably will give it another shot then. As I think back, I cannot think of what I did wrong to cause it to leak. It's not the engine seal; it definitely is the gasket at the rear. Front sealed perfectly.

As anal retentive as it sounds, did you follow the bolt pattern recommended and spply sealant in the corners? That is the only way I've even been able to make the gasket leak free.

Otherwise, it is possible that you have a slight warp on one side of your pan.

Yes. Followed the instructions precisely as shown in the P manual. Techies at dealer suggested a different sort of sealant at corners next time.

Prior to installing it, I placed pan on the concrete floor. It did not rock. Rotated 90 degrees, still did not rock (just in case floor was not level). The pan had an extra baffle with a little swing door welded in so I was concerned about warpage. Seems warp free.

Old one leaked considerably more. Will try again this winter. It irritates me because I go slowly and generally have things come out the way intended. This sure didn't.

I've used 574 on the balance shaft housing. Good stuff. So, just put it in the corners?
