car not starting...no spark
 
I own a 1986 944 and the car turns over but will not start i am not getting any spark and I would like some help in what part should I check to get my car started. I have replaced the spark plugs, wires, dist. cap, rotor, timing sensors, dme relay, fuel filter, fuel pump, coil, fuel pressure regulator. I am running out of ideas in which I am suppose to do to get the car started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you getting spark from the coil? If not, check all the power and grounding connections to the coil. Sounds like you've replaced everything except the DME itself. If you have good power to the coil, next place to look is your computer.

Check you grounds, check your fuses. start at the plugs and worlk your way back. <ol><LI>are your spark plugs clean, and gapped properly? <li>Do your plug wires fit snugly? did you push them down ALL the way? not likely your cause, but check anyway<li>Is your dist. cracked? put on properly? right side up? are the plug wires and coil wire plugged in properly. down all the way?<li>Is your rotor bug clean? are the notches in your dist. clean? <li>Does your rotor spin when you crank motor? silly question, to be sure, but to be sure is the thing. check it.<li>Is your coil wire whole? securely fastened at both ends? Make very sure the boot hasn't slipped and let the wire come out of contact with the metal piece at the end. <li>There are two wires running to your coil. does one have 12v? Do you have a multi meter with rpm capabilities? if so follow the directions and see if you have secondary ignition. If you don't have one, there are other ways of finding out, search the board and I'm sure you'll find one. ( I often wondered if a jumper from the hot battery to the secondary coil wouldn't work for an emergency or tester scenario)<li>are your sensors aligned and installed properly? Who did the work and can they or you verify this?<li>Check your fuses and your relays.<li>Check for a grounded out wire somewhere. Use a meter and trace some important looking wires. <li>Buy another DME. That's the last thing I can think of.</OL>

I had similar problem with my 1988. After replacing most of the same parts you did the problem actually turned out to be a damaged flywheel. Has a ring of teeth on it. Mine had many missing. Apparently the most important fuel system sensors get their basic info from those flywheel teeth. Changed the flywheel and my car ran like new. No trouble turning over without starting. Have your mechanic check it out if nothing else shows up. Good luck mine was in the shop 5 weeks and $2000 to find it!

I would check the crank position sensors that read the teeth, first. Without signals from these babies there is no spark.
