Alternator Wiring
The wiring harness from the alternator is fried and melted. What does it take to replace the harness, or can I use new wires without having to purchase a harness?
From the alternator, where do the two wires go and how difficult is it to fix? The car starts and runs off of the battery for now, but I need to get this fixed to start the other projects on the car. |

You can re-wire. I had a chaff spot in mine and had to do the same. When you get the air duct off of the back of the alternator you will ben able to see the harness clearly, follow it back and cut it where its good. Run new wires and get some crimp-on eyelets that are the same size.

Thanks for the update. Instead of replacing just the burned part of the wires, should I replace the entire wire(s) end-to-end?
I followed the harness and it goes to the back of the engine, then starts to snake down and under. Does it just route down and up to the battery or some other place? All comments are welcomed... |

As I remeber it splits off and goes to the starter and into another harness up to the battery. But it's been a while since I pulled the engine on my 85'.
