Water on passenger floorbaord
I am starting to get water on the passenger side floorboard when running the car. The water is cold and clear so i think it is condensation from the ac building up and shooting out. I can hear it hit the fan when I turn hard to the right. My question is where should this water be leaving the car. I can't find a drain area anywhere?

The battery trays are notorious for rusting through. When they do, the water drains into the passenger foot well (and for late cars, over the DME).
Take your battery out and have a look. Bet you have a big hole there. If it's a plugged AC drain, the drain hole is located on the firewall below and more towards the middle from the battery tray drain. Last edited by mikepellegrini; 06-13-2014 at 03:38 PM.. |

There is a drain under the A/C unit inside the dash. It should be draining under the car. However, it sounds like the A/C is icing up and that usually indicates that the coolant in the system is low. You'll need to have the system evacuated and re-charged and I also recommend the tech puts dye in the system to help locate the leak so it can be fixed.
I don't know which fan you're referring to but I'm pretty sure its the one inside the car's airflow system (part of the A/C). I'm pretty sure that once you've have the system serviced as above, you'll be out of the woods.

huh, just did mine today. Same thing, water when making a hard left, hitting the a/c fan. Scared the crap out of me the first time it did it. All the procedures i found were for late cars. Apparently you have to remove the center console to get to the top of the drain or find it outside by the torque tube. On my early (83), i removed the glove box, removed the passenger kick panel, and spent quite some time removing the plastic piece under the a/c fan. The hole piece needs loosened to get to the top of the drain, its in the back of the plastic piece. From under the car, its a very short tube that is to the right of the a/c fan. (assuming your in the seat looking towards the front of the car.) HTH

edit: I should say, its to the right of where the a/c fan is in the car, if you can judge from under the car. I feared the worst, but I just had junk at the end of the tube. Cleared it out and you could hear the water rush out.

I would think it's easier to stick a piece of wire up from the bottom of the drain tube to clear out the tube, but I haven't had this issue so let us know how it goes.

Most definitely. I couldn't find the drain under the car till i ran something down to drain it out. Next time, it should only take minutes.
