temperature

Hi',
Just had new waterpump belts pulleys etc fitted at porsche centre, now the temp gauge needle settles the needle width past the 2nd mark,(late 944) this is higher than before, it seems fine but please tell me it's ok and not to worry!

Thanks SoCal,

If my gauge is ok I'm running at 82/83 degrees, it could have been too low before. I have noticed that running that bit warmer the oil pressure is not as high, but still 3to4 ticking over.

When the water pump was replace perchance they replaced a lower temp thermostat with a standard or higher range unit.

Did you get back the parts that were not rebuildable?

Your temperature is EXCELLENT, no need to worry! I've heard people say that they run a bit hotter with a new water pump for a while...but your temperature is great. Mine gets up to the third graduation of the gauge on the 968 before the high speed fans bring the temperature back down...and I've replaced EVERYTHING in the system from temp switch/relay/resistors to water pump/radiator so consider yourself lucky. I've probably just got a bad ground somewhere.

You may also have some air in the system, raise the front of the car and bleed it off, with the heater on full.

Thank you all for your replies, I did not ask for the old parts back but did stress that I wanted the new stat the same temperature rating as the old one. When I asked for conformation that this was done, was told that the pump would have come with the standard stat, I felt they had missed the point there.
However the original part may have opened earlier because of its age, and having driven the car for a few miles now the temperature is pretty constant, so feel that things are ok especially after comments from G96.
Before signing off I will say that from a visual inspection this company have made a neat job of everything and contacted me before doing extra work, which included new oil cooler housing gasket. The engine bay has been cleaned, I thought it was clean before, but now! There is a strange coating over the engine, a bit sticky but with a shine, I'm wondering if it's a corrosion inhibitor as I think I read somewhere that it is recommended to re-apply this to aluminium castings after any work is done or after a time.
that's it for now, thanks again.
