pic of Gabriel rear shock fit at control arm

I wanted to see how the Gabriel rear shocks fit, for those who might be curious. here's the pic of the control arm attachment point - what you see from left to right is the control arm, the shock and then the washer and hex head bolt at right.

... There are substantial gaps between the arm surface and the lower shock mount sleeve on the left, and then on the right between the sleeve and the washer. the original shock has a nice fat rubber bushing that presses up against the washer and the arm. frankly, this looks like it will damage the control arm if no extra spacers are used. The fit at top is OK.

Looks the same as my KYBs on my NA 86. Jason at Maniac Racing and I had the same conversation a month or so ago when I was up there. I'd like to see a pic with stock shocks.

And I just checked the ID/OD's - clearly they are not the same - I doubt the old bush will fit.

The funny thing is that Gabriel claims these "fit".

Why would anyone bother with owning a Porsche and then fit it with Gabriel shocks?

Does the Gab shock move left or right? If it does I'm thinking that bolt could snap, bend, or both at any given moment due to too much pressure.

.. also, nobody cared about my error, but this is the trailing arm - is it also called control arm?

Control arm would be a more general term than trailing arm, but still correct.

Gabriel.... they're right up there with Monroe, right?

a nice 1/4" washer on each side and it should be just fine

enjoy the cadillac-soft ride.

There's something fundamentally wrong with using Gabriel much less Monroe shocks on a Porsche. You get something that would more appropriately be used on Yugo, it's gonna handle like a Yugo.

All the work you've done on your car, Bukowski, it seems odd you'd make such a huge departure like this.

Do yourself a favor. Sachs are good and not that expensive (they're OEM). Or maybe look for a set of used Koni's. But not Gabriel's...

its worth knowing they are available in the event you totally blow a shock at say a race event and need to drive the car home.

I am glad to report the general attitude towards rear shocks can be confirmed outside of the Pelican Parts user group - indeed, outside the Internet - , in case it seems peculiar everyone praises Koni/Sachs/Boge/Bilstein/KYB (anything missing from that list?).

As long as my trailing arm and body will last, there's no harm using these unreturnable shocks, and as a novice, I shall learn but not damage something.

No, we don't like KYB either.

I think it's basically wrong to objectify inanimate objects.
