My 'brake fluid check' light goes on when I conering or down/up hill. I noted that my brake fluid is in the Min level.
Before I topping up the brake fluid, here is my concern:- - am I just pore some brake fluid into the reservior or totally change the fluid?? - now i am not sure the exsisting brake fluid is Dot 3 or 4, any suggestion to prove it?? - is it harm to the brake system if Dot 3 mixed with Dot 4?? Thanks |

No, the first thing you do is find out why the fluid is on the MIN mark. Two possibilities; brake pads worn out or the clutch master cylinder is leaking (if the 944 is LHD, RHD drive cars have a seperate reservoir). Check those and the brake system first.
Brake fluid should be changed every two years, regardless of mileage, if you don't know how old it is, change it. And if you do have a RHD version change the clutch fluid first, use a vacuum bleeder to suck all the old fluid fromt he reservoir (s). Use DOT 4, if you have a problem finding it, any Mercedes Benz delaership keeps it in stock.
