924S no start

Hi
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I replaced my fuel pump (twice) last summer, drove it up until cold weather started, so I have had it put up until 2 days ago. It started and ran fine, until today. When I came out to leave work, it started, ran fine for 20 seconds or so, then died. Although it would turn over it wouldn't start. I checked the fuel pump fuse, checked (listened for the "whirr" of the pump) and also checked the fuel rail for pressurization...nothing. An hour later, after I grabbed my meter and tools to check for voltage, I decided to try starting it and it fired right up w/ no issues and I was able to drive it home, where I've started it several times since. Anyone have ideas I might try to find this?
Thanks

Did you replace the DME/fuel pump relay?

Or just review ideas on Clarks-GArage:
Clark's Garage Home Page

When you tried to crank the engine, did the tach needle bounce 1/16th of an inch ?

If not, could be the reference sensors.

Is the battery at absolute full charge after the winter break? If the battery was weak it may have harmed the delicate electronics.

Thanks for the info. Mine appears to have a 5-pin fuel pump relay. I mention this because the 944's have a 6-pin DME relay I guess. I'm going to make a jumper set and have it ready for my next "episode"

I'm not one to throw parts at a project and see if they stick. I am puzzled as to why the tech info on the DME relay indicates I should have one since its a 1987 model and the EARLIER models have a fuel pump relay

I think this is it from the manual and the wiring numbers

You are correct, Sir...and I am humbly mistaken
I think the numbers on the relay had me confused..At any rate, relay # 2 on the block is listed as fuel pump(according to the owners manual) and after I pulled it, it has DME relay printed on it The numbers 30,85,85b 86 and 87 are in parentheses Thanks
Ill make my jumper for this socket

i remember having the same confusion with my '83 944. i am not sure where the relays are located on the 924S, in the '83 they were stuffed under the dash and it ridiculously hard to get them out and/or see what they were.
