Trying to figure out how to break my exhaust loose. Have tried everything.....maybe. Soaked it multiple times in PB Blaster, pry, hammer, repeat. To no avail. Anybody have any tips or tricks? You have to remove all four bolts to the wastegate and the 5th bolt above connected to the torque-tube clamp off before that section will separate from the wastegate.

To make it easier in the future, once you've got the wastegate removed, pull out the studs holding the elbow piece on. Then use bolts to re-install.

To remove in the future, you can leave the dump-pupe attached. Just remove the elbow, then you can remove the wastegate and dump-pipe as one unit.

Danno-I wish, Some As*clown that the PO used as a mechanic basically welded the muffler as a solid unit all the way back. have to get it out to fix it though. The bolt is attaching the Gilled body to the vacuum plunger. According to the PET, there should not be anything else holding it up. Might have to get heavy with the steel to get it off.

Are you looking for any exhaust replacement parts? A friend has a stainless test pipe he has no use for, and I think he has a good cat also from a car he parted years ago. I can get pics and prices if you are interested. Located in Portland.

I'm looking for the wastegate elbow.

I will ask him, might take a bit of time to fine, I think he has it stored in a shop in Forest Grove. But I think he still has most of the turbo parts kicking about. It was parted due to an engine fire and bent frame rails.

If you've got all 4 bolts off the dump-pipe and the 5th hanger-bolt connected to the torque-tube clamp off. And the rest of exhaust disconnected, you can use a chisel to wedge in between the dump-pipe flange and wastegate and gently tap it in. Move it to another position and tap again.

The other way that may work is to pull the remaining stud (1 or 2 left?) from the wastegate. This will allow you to swing the elbow away from the wastegate and remove.

Brute force won the day.

why bother messing with the wastegate pipe? it's not like that is a bottleneck for the exhaust flow.... someone correct me if i am wrong, please....

I'm trying to get it back to bone stock. I bought it blowing oil but otherwise incredible. Carpet, paint, no door dings to speak of, I'm amazed that the car made it 130k in its current state. Original manuals minus the blaupunkt (that works, after it received a little love) all the rubber and plastic are fantastic. Sans the exhaust, and I expect the recent motor work, it is all there and correct. Dash is like new. Drivers seat bottom has some splits and a dime sized rub in the bolster but I'm having that fixed while the motor is out. Sunroof motor works but not opening and closing so I'll tackle that as well, cargo cover is loose on an end but I understand there is a fix to that.

I couldn't, not, buy this thing. I would have kicked myself later.
