hmm sunfire headlights?

heh not that i like the sunfires.. or even any domestic for that matter... i have to admit i admire him for the simple fact he took a chance and tried something new... it cetainly gives it an origional an a little newer look, though i have to say that he shoulda went a little diff in my opinion.. the sunfire ...just..hmm..just blech... but i see what he was tryin to do, and i admire that... i also believe that a euro done up would whuup the typical domestic/asian in the scene... but theyre also just that much damn nicer...
its funny how much flak someone gets over modifying there car to suit there style or taste and creativity..heh all you purists in here would prolly turn all wild west on ma azz if ya seen what is happening to my 44 ...heh.. but hey oh well... heh i just wish some of you would admit it... there are some modern things that could be done to the 44 that would make it look phenomenal and maybe even show the typical "ricer" that we can play on there feild and shame them there too

The 944 is perfect as is. If it wasn't, I wouldn't own one.

dogslovetrucks - Okay so I'm a smarta$$ I will try to control myself.
hamiltonguy - I was joking, perhaps you are talking about someone who installed sunfire headlights on a 944?
And you do have a point, some (like Lambic and me) love the stock look of our cars but that is no reason for us to poo poo someone who wants to be a little creative. Here in North America you can go to a car show and see a stock Ford model T next to a Ford model T with a Blown Chevy 350 and fifteen inch slicks on the back, most people can appreciate both.

I'll have a pint of Labatts (sp?)

Which one has the sunfire headlights? I'm too lazy and just plain scared to look through the whole site.

Gimme a single malt neat.

no problem, just think of how much work it would take to do something that ugly to the car in the first place. At least he is trying to be innovative.

actually the point i was making was pretty simple...sorry if u couldnt see it as clearly as i could...
and actually just to set the record straight, i never actually said that i "liked" the sunfire headlamps on the 44... i never said it was a great idea or something everyone should do.. i simply said i liked the fact that he had the courage to be creative and that thats exactly what he exhibited... even if all you who think its a bad idea to modify or alter it cant see it. as well im sure the guy who did it will appreciate in the long run when u all decide to pay his way with his car... i mean, come on... u seem to know whats best for him and his car so u would think that you could also not only share your opinions but the costs involved with his vehicle right?
i always love coming to this site.. lots of great opinions.. amazing tech info that someone such as myself wouldnt really find as easy without it... great enthusiasm amungst the members.. great place for looking for parts or whatever you virtually need or want for your car.. but you know what the best part is? the best part is all the opinions about how someone should or should not work on their cars... its funny how seemingly everyone else knows what is best for everyone else... i mean come on people... just because you wouldnt change a thing about the 944 or any model for that matter doesnt mean thats the biblical word we should all follow... i happen to personally love the 944...but i also think that theres things that could and would make it better...better for me... and when i went out and bought the car... i didnt do so thinking that i should appeal my style or ideas to suit the rest of the world around me... i did so because "I" like what "I" want to do to "MY" vehicles... i simply dont understand why when someone comes along with different or somewhat varied ideas that some people feel the urge to voice such negativity almost in some simple search for humour at the cost of someone elses ideas... where would u all be if ferdinand porsche or others like him never continued on with his pursuits of auto building.. what if he would have stuck to building tractors only... this is the simplistic beauty that you all seem to overlook... its called individuality and creative expression... so please... maybe next time take some time to reflect on someone elses ideas and maybe respect them for what they are...whatever they are.. even if you dont personally like them. thanx

heh and yes scottmandue... ur right.. but thanx for somewhat of a positive response.. in north america we have the luxury to showcase our thoughts and views as we see fit.. as i said prior, i "personally" do not like the look of the sunfire headlamps on the 944... (partially because i dont like north american vehicles as a whole) ...see for me i would have prolly went with some "tibouron" or "integra" styled lights... (lmao) ...anyhow the point was simple... ingenuity and creativity is a great thing...even if there were better ways to showcase it.. the guy prolly loves his new looking face for his car.. or maybe it was simple economics in picking the domestic headlamps.. who knows.. who cares.. i just know ill never put on sunfire lights on my car.. or anything for that matter... but also as i said before, i give him kudos for the imagination.. its what keeps us striving for more in life...

p.s. : btw.. for all you purists who love your 944's... and love the whole stock thing... remember that as you look for your aftermarket airflow kits or your modernized sound system.. or whatever it is youve updated/upgraded on your cars i mean hey... this is a "perfect" car the way it is right? (heh sorry, couldnt resist)

Ham..

I LIKE your comments. When I lived "back east", I also belonged to NHRA. At our get togethers everyone admired the effort people put into their "rides", whether stock or outlandish. Very few people made fun of or looked down on someone else's efforts. Even here, at what some folks refer to as the bottom of the Porsche food chain, we seem to maintain a certain level of elitism. That's OK, we can do that.

As for the modified headlights, it certainly simplifies the operating system and gets rid of the Rube Goldberg raising and lowering system that is quite dificult to maintain in adjustment.

Personally, I could take considerable bandwith as to what could have been improved on the '44 but I don't have to. We all have contributed to that bandwidth here. Just look at the continually recurring problems that folks ask about. If these were not weak spots in the overall design, would they keep showing up? Why would so many of us be continually upgrading and replacing factory with aftermarket? Bigger brakes, bigger turbos, lower springs..the beat goes on...

My dear old 944 has been totally rewired and the majority $1.98 switches have been replaced by more reliable ones available from most industry supply stores. In many instances, the wire itself has been upgraded one whole gauge to decrease resistance. (the original harness to the rear wiper self destructed, a result of increasing motor drag and undersized wire) Some of the motors have been replaced with upgrades. The fans, for instance, as well as that relatively useless windshield washer motor.

Not trying to rant. It's just that in most cases a lot of work goes into some of these modifications, and imagine the courage starting to make the first cut in those beautiful 944 fenders. "What if it doesn't look good or work right?"

Cheers, guys...It's been a long weekend

wow bob/moneyguy heh couldnt have said it better maself...
i know as well as everyone else why olne chooses a porsche...and especially the 944.. but as u also said, there are for all its greatness many things that could have benefitted to modern day tech an design.. in my personal opinion i would love to see a newly released modern vision of the 944 but then again im funny like that... so in our attempts to turn our aging beaut's into modern daily drivers with less down time we seek new and innovative ways to ease the pain of costly repairs..all with the hopes of showing our style and pride a little more perhaps.. whatever the reason...we do it because we love porsche.. and the term "ricing out" in my opinion is getting a little too loose... if i wanted to rice out something i would prolly purchase an asian import wouldnt i? does ruf or gembella or techart rice out there cars? hmmm oh well who knows, i guess itll be a sore spot for times to come... and hmm im still waiting for ma drink...sheesh an i thought this was a bar or somethin...

I'm quickly learning something about 944's. Money I spent on the stereo would have been better to save for when something goes wrong. I wonder if after putting neon lights and LEDs everywhere, and throwing on 20 inch dubs + other rice accessories anybody has $$ left over for when the oil pan gasket leaks, or the timing belt needs to be replaced. If you are filthy rich, lucky you but for me I'm scared straight after seeking smoke and thinking about what I'd do without my car. Driving my car is why I got it, and my $$ is going where is belongs.

My new plan:
- get AAA membership
- get car towed to find out what all that smoke is about
- hope its just oil leaking
- get credit card

Heh, they won't have money to fix it, they will have a dead car and start complaining about why Porsche designed it the way they did.

Your plan sounds good, best of luck and I hope nothing major is wrong.
