944 vs 924: What parts interchange

I've been trying to figure out what parts interchange between 924 models and 944 models. Engines bay compartments are different with the exception of the 924s. Some body parts are different but bolt on from one to another, such as the rear hatch. There is a lot small pieces of information regarding this on different threads, but I'd like to have one thread that has a majority of information on this subject. Could someone with experience and knowledge share exactly what parts are the same between the models and what parts fit but are not exactly the same?

Thanks

You should go to 924Board.org :: Index and they should have this information for you.

Are you trying to "upgrade" a 924 with 944 parts, or are you looking at 924 as a cheap source of parts for a 944? This is an important distinction that I'll illustrate:
You can easily upgrade a 924 Turbo (931) to the 944 expansion tank, but not the other way 'round; nor can you easily install the '44 tank on a CIS-equipped naturally aspirated 924.

So the definitive list of answers will depend a lot on what you're trying to accomplish.

As a general rule, the further apart the years, the less likely there is to be compatibility. The best compatibility will be between the 1980-1982 924 Turbo and the 1982-1985 944. The further you get outside of that window, the less stuff will be transferable.

Virtually all suspension components from 944 series can be used to upgrade all but the earliest (1977.5 and prior) 924 suspensions, although the so-called "late offset" stuff requires more modifications.

Many of the interior bits are interchangeable between early 924 and early 944, but not 100%, as the center console, HVAC, rear quarter liners, door latches, rear seats, etc. all have a variety of subtle differences.

Virtually nothing from the engines are interchangeable, at least not without major modifications. 944 transmissions can all be made to work in early cars with varying degrees of modifications and effort.

The monocoques are essentially the same, so doors, glass, hood, and most body seals are all essentially interchangeable. However, note that early cars have slightly different door latches, and 951 have some subtle differences in the curvature of the badge panel and front valence that make them incompatible with early 944 and 924.

That ought to get you started.
