speedo cable
grrr!
my last cable lasted 2 years. this latest one is maybe 8 months, with intermittant driving, mostly weekends. driving along and noticed the speedometer needle doing the "shimmy". next day, total failure. i noticed rust where the inner cable had snapped ?? no damage, ie: scuffing of the outer cable. what am i doing wrong ?? there are no sharp bends, and im careful to install the cable, so why does it fail?? i really would like a cable that i can take apart, and coat it with graphite grease, but it sure looks like these cables are sealed. @$52us a pop for this cable, and 6 months use, im already looking at alternatives !

You definitely have some sort of issue, mine is original (31 years old, 120k miles) and works fine.
At the speedo end you should be able to spray some WD40 or lubricant down the cable. The shimmy is the cable binding up because it's dry in the housing. |

Speedo cable
I've asked this before and got no response. Is here a slightly longer (3-4") compatible cable that would allow center mounting he tach on an early NA?
