Best way to reattach dash cover

The old beauty came with a dash cover already. However it rattled and did not seem to be put on well. I just pulled it off. There is a ton of black tar like stuff on the dash and the cover. Along with a couple of pieces of velcro.

Any ideas on the right way to install it. Heck even with the cracks I some how think the old dash looks better(sans the black stuff) anyone had luck just repairing the cracks?

James

I wanted to follow the instructions that came with my Coverlay Dash Cover but my buddy Jason thought that one tube of silicone was inadequate and, with diminishing daylight, we proceeded to apply 10 cubic tons of silicone and wedge that bastard in place. It turned out good!

This really doesn't show all the cracks and splits in the dash.

Our fly by night installation solution.

Thumbs up

Here's what 10 cubic tons of silicone, some wood, a few pieces of duct tape and a chilly night will accomplish.

Good luck with yours!

Stephen, How has your held up? It's at least a couple of months old now, right? I'm curious how these things last. I read some thread about a cover popping up in places after less than one year.
That wasn't you, right?
Well, with all that wood and tape, I'd hope not.
Give us an update?

I only had one problem. Before we applied all that silicone, we used the included 3M double sided sticky tape and put a few one inch pieces between the vents. Well, the center vent was the weakest point and when the weather got warm, the Coverlay popped up right there in the center. Well, I grabbed a pair of needle nose pliers and removed all that 3M tape. I then shot some silicone into the void and wedged it back down for 24 hours. I am proud to say that I now have absolutely no problems with the dash cover whatsoever. It has been close to 5 months and it still looks real good. All that silicone gives it a more solid feel, in my opinion. Some may not like the Coverlay Dash Cover, but I would rather have one than have a dash full of cracks.

Thanks for the installation tips

Hi,

I too have a coverlay dash cover. It is still a bit loose in a couple places - thanks for the picture illustrating your approach. I'm going to give it another go with the silicone.

On the plus side, it definitely looks better than my old cracked dash.

Kind Regards
