85 944 Coolant leak above rack.

Hi guys,

I drove my car to work today and it was running great, no problems. After work I came out and there was a big puddle of coolant on the ground, I laid on the ground to see if it was a rad hose or something easy. I couldn't see anything out of the norm. I topped it back off and drove it home, it didn't overheat and it all seemed normal, I jacked it up when I got home and noticed that there was a drip coming from a part attached to the block. It is held in place by 4 x 13 mm bolts. it is located on the drivers side of the oil pan, behind the serpentine belt and above the rack. What is this part called and is it easy to change out the gasket. Thanks for your help

assuming your right hand driver, you may be speaking of the oil heat exchanger? if so, you might need this.

you may be getting coolant in your oil, check your cap for moisture or your dipstick.

I would pressure test the cooling system to pinpoint the leak before driving.

I checked the coolant and oil today when I got home from work, I took my truck today and left the car home, oil seems fine, no coolant to be seen and the coolant seems fine as well. no trace of oil. the car is a left hand drive Thomas ryan. I pushed the car over to another spot in the garage and laid some newspaper down and I am going to see how much it is leaking, My camera is screwed up so I cant even take a pic of it, but it is in front of the rack boot, slightly above it and right beside the oil pan on the drivers side, right behind the serpentine belt and the turnbuckle to tighten the belt. I hope that narrows it down a bit more. Thanks for the replies so far,

i think you have coolant leaking from somewhere and running to that location, before it drips. a picture would help, but i am thinking a split hose at a clamp somewhere up high, like where the coolant exits the cylinder head or a cracked fitting at the coolant reservoir.

Pressure test it. Could be your cap, pump or upper radiator hose connection.
