Anybody tried one of those Tornado Air or spiralmax
Has anybody used one of these, i think their claims are way too high, anybody had experience?

One of my bro's friends had a mustang and he put a tornado thingie on. He said it made a whistling noise, but no noticable power. I think for most products, if aproduct offers such an incentive, then why didn't auto makers use one??

yah they claim like 15 HP and 31% better fuel economy....

I think the main benefit of these things is the enlargement of the manufacturer's wallet at your expense.
In God we trust, all others bring notarized dyno sheets.

From what I've heard, people tried these when they first came out and discovered that they actually ROB you of horsepower. It is an obstruction in the path from the airbox to the engine, remember.
I think once word of mouth spread, people more-or-less stopped buying them. Unless someone out there has proof to the contrary?

Car and Driver tested out the Tornado on their long-term 540i, and said it had absolutely no effect whatsoever.

This is the most rediculous thing I've seen sold for cars.
The engine is an air pump. Anything that obstructs air flow reduces power. Swirl vanes obstruct flow. We need laminer flow through the intake ducting for the injectors to properly mix the fuel. The infomercial for this piece of junk shows an airline turbofan engine and states something like, 'if a jet uses a swirling motion so should a car.' Two basic problems with this: 1-The rotation is a basic operation of a turbine. As a result of this rotation the air is swirled. This is not the case for a piston engine. 2-In every turbine engine there is a diffuser between the compressor and the burner cans. A critical function of this diffuser is to STRAIGHTEN the airflow before it goes to the combustion chamber and mixes with fuel. Exactly the OPPOSITE of what this "Tornado" claims increases power. Save your money and buy a little something for your sweetheart, like a new fuel filter or a bottle of Zymol.

Consumer reports tested it in two of their mules and found degraded performace in both. They state on their site that they've reported the product to the Better Business Bureau.

Well Ive had the thing for almost a year and atleast have gotten atleast 10hp from it...JUST KIDDING!!!!!!! WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY......Divezec you forgot the other two basic problems....

Chris, ya hit that nail on the head. In fact I do believe that most people are idiots. How else can you explain Vanilla Ice's success (albeit short-lived) and Pet Psychiatrists. Another thing they don't mention in the infomercial (of course the don't mention it, it proves the product is junk) is that the airflow is distributed by the individual intake runners after it passes the "tornado" thingy.
Even if we accept their lie that the swirl decreases resistance, the swirl will be almost immediately destroyed when the air is distributed amongst the intake runners. Basically, it's fraudulent info on so many levels. ZV

hahahahah thats awsome!!!! Speaking of silliness, my Girlfriend regan comes down for a few days and im inth garage throwing in a passanger seat in my car for her and she comes out with a huff and a puss on her face, so i say whats wrong, she says nothing...i say ok and continue putting the seat in for HER.....so to make a very long story short we ended up going out for about 20min cuase she threw a big fit and i got hooked into it....so the car came out of the garage and went back in in less than it took me to put the seat in....her punsihment...the CRX for the rest of the weekend...hahahaha......geez you try and be nice and all i get is screaming....thats it for my ranting and raving....-chris
